Garland V. Stewart Middle Magnet School

Garland V. Stewart Middle Magnet School, normally referred to as "Stewart", opened as Don Thompson Vocational High School in 1945 on West Spruce Street in Tampa, Florida, USA. Don Thompson was a school that was for segregated Tampa, FL for Blacks. The building later housed Blake High School before becoming Stewart. The school is named in honor of Garland V. Stewart, the first African American to serve as Assistant Superintendent for the School District of Hillsborough County. Stewart has 950 students in grades 6-8. The school mascot is the Yellow Jacket's.

Stewart has a full band and orchestra program. There are nine computer labs to create a 2:1 student to computer ratio. Stewart also has a full-sized gym. The I Can Learn! labs teach Algebra 1 to seventh grade students on a computer system. Stewart Students participate in Math League, Math Counts, and Worlds Of Wisdom (geography/History Tournament) competitions.
